Because Shay said I should, I am trying out posterous.com. At first blush, it looks totally and insanely awesome. We'll see if I hold with that opinion over time... Or more importantly, whether it's worthwhile considering how automated I already have things.

Based on the traditional Americana gypsy profile motif, but done in Fish's distinctive style. This is the first one I've gotten from him that is recognizably his artwork.
It's awesome. More color in a couple weeks.

In February, I start the next one. Gotta get all the Fish time I can afford while he's still in Denver.
Saturday afternoon was again spent in Fish's chair at Th'Ink Tank.
He came at me with a much more sensible approach of shading and coloring chunks instead of shading the whole thing and coloring it all the next time. (He did all the shading on Ed's at once because he had to let Ed walk out with a tattoo that looked complete.) As per usual the color work is astonishing:

Yeah, finally got to go in and start the greenman tattoo. I'll have two more sittings to finish it. We only managed to do the line work today. It's that effing HUGE! ;) I'm seriously amazed he managed to do Ed's shading (even though Ed went back for more a few days later, which... Ouch!). There are a lot of lines in this puppy.
Good times. I'll post an after pic once I wash it. Here's the full outline after the first wash.

It's worth noting (especially for my friends who like to show up and call me when they hit they airport) that Fish's weekend slots are booked out at least a month. Of course I could have gotten in sooner if I could get down there by 4pm on a week day, but I can't really.
Also super-exciting: Fish is working on a line of tough and sexy men's wear.
First, a pointer for y'all to check out Inked Inc., a Ning-powered social site for "counterculture professionals". The site is very young at this point, so it's been kind of fun so far. The biggest thing working for the site so far has been the participation of Marisa from Needled. She's the coolest.
PSA over, I'll just mention that I've started blogging about my next tattoo there.
The Next One A week from today I have a consultation with my artist, Fish at Th'Ink Tank Tattoos in Denver, about my next tattoo. So, what am I going to get? Well, it kind of depends...

The motorcycle gods are conspiring against me this summer. My social calendar has been packed (for me) lately, and the combination of that with a) trying to get back in shape and b) fairly regular afternoon thunderstorms (or at least the threat thereof), and c) projects around the house has kept me off my Bonneville for the most part. I've only had the poor thing out twice this year and that was in the Spring.
I'm not too worried, though. I'll get my chances eventually. Plus, I much prefer riding in the transition seasons than in the blast furnace that is Summer in the Denver metro.
In other news, I'm going in to talk to Fish about my next tattoo in a couple weeks.
That's what our waiter had tattooed on his knuckles last night, even though he seemed too young to know the movie. (We asked: the movie was his inspiration.) We managed to avoid calling him Ponyboy.But we all know "Nothing gold can stay."
There's plenty going on these days, but that's all I can think of to share at the moment.
I have no idea how long it's been since I've actually been to work. I had the week between Christmas and New Year's scheduled for vacation, but then we had the Hanukkah Blizzard of 2006 so things got started off really early for me. I guess two weeks ago today was the last time I was in the office. Take a guess at my motivation level... ;)
Thanks to the Hanukkah and Kwanzaa blizzard combination, we ended up spending the holidays doing a lot of sitting around and staring at each other. We did get out to the tattoo shop to get the Mother-in-Law a new piece (of which I should really get a better picture) and for The Wife and I to get some touch up done.
Other than that, not a lot to report. We did watch some DVDs:

The boys at our favorite tattoo shop finally have their new web site up: ThinkTankTattoo.com Backstory: Their old obnoxious (it resized the browser window!) site just up and disappeared a long while back. Thne they had a place-holder up saying the new site would be up in November. The web guys obviously missed that goal... ;)
I'm just excited because Fish's glamor shot tickles me pink!

Not only do you get great insight into the art of tattooing, but you get fun Photoshop tips, too! It's a very young site, but it's off to a killer start.

It turns out I get a lot of hits for the search term "tattoo blog" (As I'm looking at it right this second, this post comes up in the number 2 spot, and tops for the plural). I just thought I'd take a second to give props to the number one result, TattooBlog.org, which is actually a new find for me. The stuff posted there is hit or miss for my tastes, but I'm always down for more tattoo-related reading material.
What's interesting about the law is that is was the result of lobbying by the Illinois Coalition of Community Blood Centers to increase the number of potential blood donors by allowing people to donate blood within a year of getting tattoos or piercings. The blood will still undergo rigorous testing, but abolishing the current year-long wait will no longer discourage the tattooed and pierced from donating -- and, overall, no longer make people feel like social pariahs.
Nice. I've been annoyed by the 12 month waiting period between getting a new tattoo and giving blood pretty much since I got my first tattoo. I have a semi-rare blood type and actually like to give blood. However, I also plan to continue getting tattoos (probably at least annually) for the near term.
I'm glad to see some lawmakers initiating a change. Hopefully Illinois will start a trend.
